How to Start Meaningful Conversations?
Tuesday Jul 05, 2022
Tuesday Jul 05, 2022
Do you struggle with having meaningful conversations and making a good first impression on the phone? Everyone wants to make a good first impression, but often they start conversations in a way that is too focused on them and not focused enough on the person they are speaking with. In today’s episode, Wendy Harris, Queen of Conversation at Making Conversations Count Ltd, talks about her experience in telemarketing and how to have impactful conversations over the phone. Wendy has been in telemarketing since 1988, hosts her own podcast dedicated to making conversations, and is the author of Making Conversations Count: How To Sell Over The Phone.
The most important thing to know about making phone conversations count is that you have to be speaking to the right person, about the right thing, at the right time. You can make hundreds of calls, but if you’re advertising something that person doesn’t want to hear about, it will never turn into a sale. Results will eventually come by just talking to enough people consistently and pre-qualifying what their needs are. When you approach a conversation with the intention of hearing the other person out instead of immediately spilling your sales pitch to them, you will have a more impactful conversation.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about making meaningful conversations over the phone. Learn best practices for making a good first impression, being more relaxed on the phone, and turning phone calls into sales.
Quotes
• “We all strive for a modicum of respect from other people. So you can only earn that if you behave in a certain way.” (6:02-6:12)
• “I would challenge anybody to say that sales training is all about what you say and the process. It's not, it's about who you are, and how you say it. That comes before anything else.” (7:42-7:59)
• “When it comes to wanting to make that [good] impression, the intention has to be not about me. This is all about them. And if that intention is there from the off, the conversation flows a lot easier. It's way more natural. And I think it kind of takes the stress out of it for yourself as well.” (9:09-9:37)
• “The only person that's worried about how you sound is you. Nobody's going to really judge you.” (10:01-10:20)
• “It basically comes down to three things for you to get the form. And that is speaking to the right person for the right reason, at the right time. And then the last part is, the results will come. Because you're talking to the right people about the right thing at the right time.” (18:26-18:50)
• “If you just rang somebody once a day, then in the course of a month, you've had 20 conversations or attempted 20 conversations. And if all you're looking to do really is to see when the best time would be for you to have the real conversation with the meat on the bones that's going into your forward calendar. So by the end of the year, you've got 200 conversations that you're having. So 200 conversations with people, how many then turn into customers, because you're talking to the right people, and you're talking to them at the right time for the right reason? Your forecasting becomes so much simpler. That's just one a day.” (30:52-31:44)

How to Become a Recognized Authority in Your Field?
Tuesday Jun 28, 2022
Tuesday Jun 28, 2022
Are you interested in becoming a recognized authority in your field, but you’re not sure where to start? Everyone starts out as a novice and through experience becomes an expert. However, most do not go on to become recognized authorities. The difference between a general expert and an authority is visibility and specialization. Without choosing a specific niche, you will not be able to move forward and become a recognized authority and will instead, remain an invisible generalist. In today’s episode, Alastair McDermott, digital marketing and business strategist at The Recognized Authority, shares his tips for going from unrecognized generalist to successful specialist.
It can be really scary to take the first steps toward becoming an authority in your field because you first have to commit to not only a field, but a specific niche within that field. When deciding on a niche, consider what you love doing, what you are good at doing, what pays well, and what would benefit the world. And from there, see where your answers intersect. Alastair explains that to build your authority, you will have to turn away opportunities that fall outside of your chosen niche. This will open up your time to research, write, and publish content for your specialty. As you produce more content for your field, you will start to be recognized for your expertise and your network will organically grow.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about becoming a recognized authority in your field. Learn why it is important to choose a niche, how to get started gaining authority, and when it is appropriate to pass over a client or opportunity in favor of ones that are a better fit.
Quotes
• “I love the concept of people building their own authority and becoming known as a recognized authority in their field because I think it's such a great way to do marketing. It's such a pleasant way to do marketing because it's not hard selling. It's just a really nice way because what you're doing typically is you're teaching and you're helping people.” (3:45-3:67)
• “If you want to become an authority, you have to be known for something. And that's the difficult part because when you're niching down, you're actually turning away opportunity. You are making a conscious decision to turn away most opportunities in order to say a bigger yes to a small subset of that.” (08:10-8:30)
• “You've got to get yourself to the place where you can afford to say no, and then you can become more choosy. The opportunity cost of saying yes is too much. So you have to say no so that you keep your free time for when the right fit client comes along.” (10:55-11:12)
• “What are you good at doing? What do you love doing? What pays really well? And what does the world need?” (14:27-14:30)
• “In businesses, we run small tests all the time. And it's not really failing, it's just learning that something doesn't work and trying something else.” (19:48-19:54)
• “Everybody starts out as a novice, and then you go on to become this invisible expert. And then the path ahead of you goes through a mountain range. And that mountain range is specialization.” (20:39-20:51)

How to Handle Entrepreneurial Stress?
Tuesday Jun 21, 2022
Tuesday Jun 21, 2022
Has stress been weighing you down and blocking you from reaching your full potential as an entrepreneur? Stress is a natural part of life that occurs when the demands placed on you appear greater than your available resources. The good news is that there are ways to change how things appear to you and reduce that feeling of stress. In today’s episode, international mindfulness coach Sandeep Nath shares tips he learned from all over the world on how to prevent and reduce stress.
Sandeep studied with Vedic gurus and Tibetan masters and learned that there are a few key essentials to keeping stress away. As we grow and our lives become more stressful, we begin to lose track of things that originally came very easily to us, such as taking full deep breaths, chewing our food completely, getting enough sleep, and pausing to take breaks throughout the day. By slowing down and relearning how to breathe and eat mindfully we can retrain our brains to focus and help stop the overactivity of our thoughts. By getting enough sleep, we can recharge our yin energy and balance it with the yang energy we receive during the day.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about how to prevent and reduce stress in your daily life to help you achieve more with your career. Learn how to breathe more effectively, eat more mindfully, and allow your body to rest and recover.
Quotes
• “We get stressed when our demands appear to be more than our resources. Now, the word ‘appear’ is very important. And why it is important is because we can do something about how things appear to us.” (6:19-6:34)
• “Developing your inner power is kind of building up an energy base within which shines a light on whatever the demand is. And the demand cost is shadow on the other side. This inner power, this energy is what differentiates those billionaires from us entrepreneurs, because they have the same time. But they have a lot more energy, which helps them focus, which helps them align, which helps them to delegate, which helps them outsource, which helps them do everything that needs to be done with the right kind of sense of priorities without fragmenting their energy.” (8:06-8:48)
• “We’ve got to train our mind with our breathing. And what I recommend that we do is that we get into a habit where we stop doing whatever we're doing for 30 seconds. Just 30 seconds, take a pause. And in those 30 seconds, just focus on the air going in and coming out.” (14:17-14:41)
• “The yin and the yang of ancient wisdom, there is a duality of everything. So the yin is the female side, the cool side, the dark side. The yang is the bright side, the outward side, the hot, warm side. And they always exist together.” (26:40-26:59)
• “You want to see yourself stress-free? Make habits of the B.E.S.T. Practices; Breathe, Eat, Sleep, Take Timeout.” (29:45-29:52)

How to Use Case Studies in Your Marketing?
Tuesday Jun 14, 2022
Tuesday Jun 14, 2022
Have you been struggling with effectively communicating your story? One way to help convey your business’ messaging and your brand’s story is through a case study. A case study is similar to a testimonial, but is longer and more detailed. It is written in a compelling, conversational style that is more relatable for the reader and helps them envision themselves as your client. In today’s episode, writer and content marketer Geoff Strauss shares his tips for using case studies as a marketing tool.
It’s one thing to tell people how great your business is, but it’s another to be able to back up your claims with actual evidence. That’s where a case study comes in. A case study is a formal document that gives the full story of your business relationship with a client. When people read the case study, they will see businesses just like theirs benefitting from their relationship with you and they will be able to picture themselves in that same position. You can also use pieces from the case studies on your website, on advertisements like fliers, and on social media to get even more value out of your investment.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about using case studies in marketing. Learn what a case study is, what makes it different from a testimonial, and how to get started with writing your own case study.
Quotes
• “If you're just out there saying how good you are, you're asking people to believe you, but you're not necessarily going to the proof or the evidence or reason to trust you. And that's where a case study comes in. Because it's the words of your actual clients saying what they experienced working with you, and sharing their journey from what they were facing to what they realized, from working with you. And that's a powerful marketing piece, because then people don't have to wonder if they can believe you, they can see what you've actually done for other people just like them, and they can see themselves going through that process.” (3:27-3:59)
• “I found that at the price point that I use, if it turns even one lead into a client, people are making more return than what they're investing on this piece of marketing. So it's a very cost effective piece of marketing.” (7:36-7:50)
• “Read what you've written and think if that is something you would say to somebody in person. If it doesn't sound like what you really say, then you need to rewrite it.” (15:19-15:30)
• “If people can see something and say, Oh, that's just like me…That's going to be really good for your business, because people can see themselves as your client then.” (16:50-17:01)

How to Set Up Email Automations?
Tuesday Jun 07, 2022
Tuesday Jun 07, 2022
Do you use email marketing for your business? If you are not yet using email marketing, you are missing out on an ideal opportunity to grow your customer base. In today’s episode, Kelsey Johnson, product marketing manager at AWeber with ten years of experience, shares her tips for getting started with email marketing.
Email marketing platforms are relatively simple and inexpensive to set up, so even small businesses can take advantage of them. Kelsey Johnson shares that the first and most important step is to begin building your email list. If you are not active on social media, email marketing can be integrated into payment platforms like Paypal and Shopify, so that when someone purchases a product from you, they are automatically prompted to join your email list. Next, she recommends that you set up an automated welcome series, which are emails that go out anytime someone joins the list. Additionally, you should segment your list into groups so that you can send customers more personalized emails based on their interests.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about email marketing and why it is useful for your business. Learn how to get started with an email marketing platform, how to build an email list, and what types of emails you should send.
Quotes
• “One of the greatest things about email marketing is that the return on your investment is very, very high relative to other types of marketing. So if you do think that email marketing isn't for you or your business, I always recommend that people try it first and see if the results are there.” (4:07-4:25)
• “When you build up your email list, when you create this community of people who are willing to receive your emails, you have a direct line to them, and you own that audience. That list of email addresses and names doesn't belong to the software you use to send the emails out, it belongs to you.” (5:23-5:42)
• “Pay attention to your own business and your customers and what they will actually want to hear from you.” (21:33-21:39)
• “Sending personalized content to those different groups can really do things like get people to open your emails more often, keep you out of the promotions tab more often, build up that community, build up that trust, and ultimately make more sales in the long run, because you're giving somebody the specific content they want.” (25:15-25:36)
