How to Achieve Mental Wealth
Tuesday Feb 15, 2022
Tuesday Feb 15, 2022
Do you know who is on your support team? According to Mike Pagan, coach and author of Mental Wealth: Unlock Your Potential, Enrich Your Life, the first step to mental wealth is determining who is on your team.
Mental wealth is the bank we can draw from when we are facing challenges in our lives. The most important strategy when creating mental wealth is putting together a support team of people who have our backs no matter what. With the right team behind us, challenges and mistakes will be easier to overcome. Mike explains that the easiest way to figure out who is in that support network is to make a list of names and rank them from one to ten. Only the 8s, 9s, and 10s count when it comes to building mental wealth.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about mental wealth. Learn how to build and strengthen your support network, participate in intentional mindfulness, put yourself first, and work more effectively.
Quotes
• “For me, a lot of my focus is very much on having the right support team around. Over my years of business, when I haven’t had the right people that’s when I’ve made the mistakes or I’ve had the challenges. Having good people around you doesn’t mean you’re not going to make mistakes. It just means you bounce back far more effectively.” (01:16-01:40)
• “Isolation…kills creativity and prevents decision-making.” (02:34-02:39)
• “For me, it’s not about networking. It’s about understanding the power within our network.” (03:30-03:42)
• “Self-care for me is a simple starting block…We have to be number one…If we’re not number one we can’t support others.” (07:38-08:00)
• “I don’t want anybody listening to this to go and work harder. I want them to be more effective when they’re working.” (13:52-13:58)
• “I just want people to create a list of names of people that they believe are part of their support team, their connections that are good for them. Some of those names will be quite random…It’s who you think is supporting you. Then I want you to score them. Where 1 is a low score, 10 is a high score. And this is totally subjective…Don’t give them a bigger score because you think they might be offended and don’t give them a low score because you want to be mean…If you’ve scored somebody 1 to 3, then you know them, they’re an acquaintance but they haven’t got your back…If you scored somebody a 4 or a 5 then you know them because there is a reason. They might be part of a sport you’re involved in, part of your community, the school your children go to. However, if you are away for a month or two...when you turn up they’ll say, ‘Oh, great to see you again’… they won’t ring you in between but they’ll be very chirpy when they see you, because of the reason. You’ve then got your 5s and 6s. A lot of these people will be your good friends…however, the one thing you’re not comfortable doing with these guys is talking about finances, ideas, goals, big plans. They’re not going to get your intimate vulnerability…then your 8, 9s and 10s. These are the people who you are comfortable saying anything and everything to. They’ve got your confidence, they’ve got your back. If they don’t hear from you for a little while they will pick up the phone and…hold you accountable…When it comes to creating a mental wealth team, it’s only the 8, 9s and 10s that count. Everybody else is noise.” (15:32-18:09)

Trust-Based Selling
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Have you struggled with gaining a potential client’s trust? People have their eyes open to ingenuity and are quick to believe a salesperson is not being honest. According to Ari Galper, CEO and founder of Unlock The Game, building trust is the most important component of sales.
Ari tells listeners that trust should be built before you even attempt to sell something. If you are always focused on meeting your sales goal, people will be able to pick up on that and won’t feel as comfortable with you. Listening to clients and being able to accurately diagnose their problem helps to foster a more authentic connection. If you start off by building a true connection, people will be more likely to purchase your product or service.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about a different, more honest approach to sales. Learn how to build authentic connections with your clients and rethink the ways you have been taught to sell in the past.
Quotes
• “Somewhere along the way it has become socially acceptable not to tell the truth to people who sell.” (05:53-06:00)
• “I said to myself, ‘This has to stop. I’m never gonna chase anybody ever again, because it’s dehumanizing, it’s unprofessional and it lowers your authority.’” (07:35-07:46)
• “You lose more than you make. You burn lots of leads by not focusing on trust with the other person. By only focusing on your goal, the sale, it disconnects you from them feeling comfortable with you and opening up to you and telling you where they stand.” (13:42-13:57)
• “We’ve been taught in sales our job is to build relationships with people. And I tell my clients, you build a relationship with somebody after they’re a client. Not before they’re a client.” (19:32-19:44)
• “When you’re able to diagnose their issues and amplify them and peel the onion back more, they feel that you understand them at a deep level. And that feeling is resonating. When you resonate with someone it’s a vibration, they feel this connection to you because you’re the only one who is not trying to prescribe a solution before you diagnose the problem. See in sales, we’re taught to present our solution once we qualify somebody. So the goal is not to qualify them. The goal is to build trust with them.” (19:57-20:29)
• “Stop selling and build trust instead. You’ll double your sales by doing that.” (30:47-30:54)

The Importance of Authenticity in Business
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Are you struggling with running your business in a way that feels authentic? According to Greg Friel, musician and marketer at Freelance Music and Media, one of the most important ways to improve and grow your business is to be true to yourself.
Greg began his career as a singer and songwriter, and this creativity flows through every aspect of his work in marketing. He encourages business owners to think about what is most important to them and to create content that resonates with those values. Greg explains that as long as you are authentic in all that you say and do, people will grow to trust and like you and be more inclined to do business with you.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about finding and being your authentic self. Learn how to channel creativity into your business, how to ask for help when you need to, and how to align your business with your personal values.
Quotes
• “I find that whenever I’m doing creative work, it just keeps fueling more creative work. I always say…that creativity really is the currency. Everything else in business is being commodified.” (03:43-04:04)
• “Stress is always the enemy of creativity.” (05:14-05:17)
• “Reducing stress is the key factor to encouraging creativity.” (06:04-06:09)
• “It’s always about being authentically yourself and you have to be true to who you are. Whenever you are really aligned with ‘this is who I am and this is what I want to do’ and you’re doing that work, that tends to be when you’re in your happy place and doing your best work.” (07:59-08:18)
• “The secret to everything is just to simplify everything. To me, authenticity is quite simply when what you say matches what you do. Then you’re being authentically yourself.” (08:42-08:54)
• “The greatest thing you can learn as a business owner, especially when things are overwhelming, is you can’t do it all by yourself. If you look at successful businesses over the years, there are very very few stories of self-made men or women achieving everything totally by themselves. There was always somebody along the way that offered a helping hand....I think we all really really need that in our business journey and certainly for me that’s become a recent addition to my working life. For so long I was like ‘I do this by myself, this is me’....Now the things that I’m not good at or less good at, I bring in somebody who is really good at those things and that takes away a lot of the stress. I think a lot of the overwhelm comes with thinking I have to do all of this by myself.” (14:38-15:57)
• “Be yourself in what you say and what you do. Those have to match.” (27:41-27:47)

How to Bring the Right People to Your Website Through Digital Marketing
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Are you looking to increase your business’ digital potential this year? According to Rob Morley, Director at Fountain Partnership, there are several ways for entrepreneurs to improve their digital marketing strategies, starting with a mindset shift.
Rob challenges business owners to think deeper than the basics of wanting a larger social media presence and instead to consider why they need that for their business. He recommends owners change their mindset to focus on and narrow down their goals. Rob divulges important tips for how to choose the best digital marketing specialist or agency to help reach those goals in a cost-effective and efficient way.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips for a conversation about bringing the right people to your website through digital marketing. Learn more about the top things to look for in a digital marketing company, what factors to consider when crafting your marketing goals, and the most common mistakes business owners make that prevent them from reaching their digital potential.
Quotes
• “This industry moves so fast and things are always changing. However, I would say the foundation, the core of marketing and especially digital marketing hasn’t really changed. Challenge one is having a basic understanding of digital marketing. That’s something I’d recommend business owners to do.” (2:54-3:23)
• “If you’re not subscribed to goals-based marketing, you’re going to fall into thinking about activity too much… I’m always listening when I’m talking to small business owners if they’re asking my advice. They might say things like ‘we need some social media’ or ‘we need to change our website.’ And I will say why? Why do you think you need to do that?…A better conversation, a better mindset to get into is saying things like ‘we need 250 leads in 2022, because if we get 250 leads we’ll win 30 customers and if we get 30 customers we’ll make our 1 million euro.’ So you can see the type of thinking and sort of questions that a small business owner needs to be thinking about. Basically, what I’m driving at is that we need to quantify marketing as much as possible.” (5:37-6:42)
• “In my opinion it’s better to have two or three specialists that are exceptional at what they do than have one generalist.” (14:37-14:44)
• “Most great agencies…are recommended. They win their business through recommendations, not through digital marketing. I think this surprises some people, especially business owners…The truth is great digital marketing companies will do some digital marketing but actually the best business they win is because they’re very very good at what they do and they’ve built trust within a community, within a network and they are verbally recommended.” (15:20-16:03)
• “We want to procure or buy the best talent that we can afford. We’re looking for value. That’s it.” (32:46-32:54)
• “Consider the false economy. The cheapest isn’t always best.” (37:06-37:10)
• “A good question for business owners to remember to ask really of any supplier is ‘are we on target or are we off target?’ Simple question. Any good professional in the marketing space should be able to answer that question without falling off their chair…If we’re off target, where in the funnel, where in the activity that is being done, are we off target? It’s the numbers first. Then context. Then narrative.” (39:09-39:48)
• “Some entrepreneurs are really busy because they spend too much time focusing on things that don’t matter…You don’t need to look at the numbers on a daily basis.” (44:00-44:17)

Why Leaders Need to Evolve Before They Can Transform Their Companies
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Are you contemplating the best strategy for growing your adolescent business in 2022? According to Nick Cramp, business owner and author of Better Before Bigger, there are six key areas of your business to focus on improving.
Nick works with adolescent businesses to help them grow into sustainable, mature companies. In his book, Better Before Bigger, he outlines six key areas that consistently lead to successful growth. He emphasizes the importance of growing better before growing bigger and explains business growth as climbing a mountain with periods of growth occurring at each plateau. The six key areas discussed are: inspirational leadership, strategic clarity, reciprocal relationships, numerical extrapolation, reputational maximization, and operational optimization.
Tune into this week’s episode of Powerful Marketing Tips to hear in depth descriptions of each of the six key steps to business success. Learn how to take your adolescent company to new heights by changing your mindset and refocusing your growth strategy!
Quotes
• “[When I started business coaching], that’s when my real education started into understanding business life cycles, understanding what it takes to achieve sustainable success in a repeatable way which allows the business owner to feel in control and grow the business. I think the difficulty is that complexity around growth and control and it genuinely seems you can have one but you can’t have both simultaneously. My journey over the last few years has been working primarily with adolescent stage companies and trying to understand what’s the difference between the ones that scale successfully to maturity and the ones that never get past that stage.” (03:36-04:27)
• “When we start in business we look at business growth as being like climbing a mountain. When we’re a kid we see mountains as being triangles…when in reality a mountain is climbing, plateaus, slight downhills, more climbing. It’s actually much more nuanced. I think that’s what we forget when we run a business. That at various times we need to be on a plateau, and that means we have the time to catch ourselves up, refocus, re-energize, re-strategize…let the business catch up.” (05:06-06:03)
• “Once we’ve made a commitment public, we are much more likely to stick to it.” (15:36-15:40)
• “They owe it to themselves to take the time to grow better before bigger. They’re the one ultimately paying the price of their current strategy. They’re the one that’s feeling overwhelmed, slightly trapped, slightly resentful that they haven’t got more time. My advice would be that you owe this to yourself and as the leader you get a say in this. You’ve got the permission, the opportunity to put a different strategy in place. If the current strategy is not working for you, change it. Be brave, be courageous, and do something different rather than just plow on expecting something magically to change.” (34:35-35:27)
